Wow! June was a busy month for CynSingsJazz! A quick, but great, fill-in gig at the OK Jazz Hall with the fabulous Mike Bennett (trumpeter extraordinaire). Father’s Day and Veteran’s celebration with Ernestine Dillard on Father’s Day (If you have not heard Ernestine sing “God Bless America,” you’re missing a beautiful thing). A quick song or two at the OK Jazz Hall with Leon Rollerson for his Juneteenth Celebration and then a fabulous time watching the legendary jazz drummer, Louis Hays, heat it up at the Hall. Let’s just say that Louis Hays is A-MAZ-ING! Didn’t need to sing, was privileged to watch a master work the drums. But the month wasn’t over! I still had my monthly gig at Ciao, in the wonderful Primo Room. That night Jeff Newsome joined me on keyboard, Bill Crosby was back on bass and Tony Yohe was driving the beat on the drums. It was an awesome night! Made several new friends, had some wonderful old friends stop by and the Queen of Jazz, Pam Crosby (yep, that’s Bill’s wife) sat in and sang one of my favorites “Smooth Operator.”
So, now we’re on to July! I’ll be at a new spot this month. Main Street Tavern in Broken Arrow is a wonderful restaurant. They have weekly jazz on Thursday evenings and I’ll be there with Scott McQuade on July 12. At the end of the month, July 29, I’ll be back at Ciao! I really LOVE that place. This time I’ll be accompanied by Steven Schrag, a hot young piano player from TU, and my faithful (and crazy talented) rhythm section, Bill Crosby on bass and Tony Yohe on drums, will be back with me.
Here are the dates and and times again so you can put them on your calendar. I really hope to see you at one of these. You’ll have a wonderfully, jazzy, good time!
Main Street Tavern, July 12, 6pm – 9pm
Ciao on Brookside, July 29, 7:30pm – 10:30pm
See you at the show! Until then,
